Office Dress Code | Formal or Casual?

Have you entered a new phase in your work life? Well, now it’s time to learn about your office etiquette. What does office etiquette entail? It’s about managing your work time wisely, maintaining good relationships with coworkers, and yes, why not talk about clothing! Maintaining the official dress code is one of the crucial aspects of office etiquette. Let’s see how formal and casual dress codes should be.

Official Dress Code

  1. Corporate Dress Code
  • The word ‘corporate’ itself implies a sense of seriousness. Therefore, clothing should reflect that seriousness. For corporate office dress code, you can opt for our traditional woven sarees and kameez. When it comes to sarees, strictly avoid blouses with large necklines or knotted blouses.

Regardless of whether it’s a saree, kameez, or suit, the colors should be light. Usually, for formal attire, shades like light blue, white, light pink, beige, or cream are highly preferred. However, according to various fashion experts, khaki-colored outfits are also acceptable. The fabric of the saree should not be too transparent, like muslin or net. In our country, women generally don’t wear suits to the office. However, if you prefer, you can pair formal pants and shirts with a blazer.

It’s good to avoid wearing necklaces around your neck. You can wear stud earrings, but make sure they don’t overwhelm your ears. A small leather satchel bag adds a classy touch. A leather or chain wristwatch will enhance your look. For shoes, opt for closed-toe heels of 1-3 inches. If you have short hair, neatly arrange it, or if it’s long, a chignon bun will do the trick. If you want to wear makeup, go for light foundation, nude lipstick, and subtle eye shadow. There you go! A classy look is ready!

Creative Dress Code

  • When you’re creative, your clothing should also reflect that creativity. Creative individuals want to express themselves, even in their attire. Mixing formal outfits with creative ones can be a bit challenging. However, incorporating a casual style into the creative office dress code is perfect! There are plenty of options available for your office attire now. You can choose outfits of any color you like. Pairing tops with jeans or leggings according to your preference is perfectly fine. Whether it’s cotton, knitted, or jersey, it doesn’t matter.

However, there’s one condition: the dress must be tailored. As tops, you can wear t-shirts, tunics, or button-down collar shirts. There can be many variations in their cutting! Pairing them with a coat, cape, or shrug will look fantastic. Colorful prints are not necessarily for creative individuals. Just avoid wearing illuminating fabrics. Leather or suede jackets are also acceptable. A fashionable locket around your neck will add a glamorous touch. Carrying a fashionable watch and bracelet will make you look even more stylish. Since creative individuals often spend a lot of time outside the office, they can carry a big classic handbag with them. Typically, mule shoes go well with the original style and make you look smart at the office. If you apply makeup, a light foundation and a deep-colored lipstick will give you a glamorous look.

Whether it’s corporate or creative, adhering to the office dress code will enhance your professional demeanor. The office attire doesn’t have to be expensive or from a renowned brand. By adhering to the office dress code according to your means, you will maintain professionalism. So, understand your office and job type from now on and choose your office dress code wisely!
