Are you not harming the skin by using natural ingredients in cosmetics?

Many prefer using home remedies or natural ingredients in skincare. It’s believed that using these natural ingredients will result in better skin without any damage. However, often due to improper use of these home remedies, it can lead to further damage to the skin. In today’s article, I’m sharing about the potential harm to the skin when using natural ingredients in skincare.

Natural Ingredients Used in Skincare

Orange:

We often use orange peel directly on the face to remove suntan. However, it’s advisable to avoid it because oranges are highly acidic, which can imbalance the skin’s pH level and cause skin barrier damage, making our skin more sensitive to the sun.

Baking Soda:

Many use baking soda on the face to treat dark spots or patches. But its pH level is much higher compared to our skin, which can lead to various issues like dryness, itchiness, and irritation. Moreover, using baking soda as a facial scrub can damage the skin barrier and even make the skin thinner.

Cinnamon Powder:

Some use cinnamon powder as an instant solution to get rid of pimples overnight. However, applying cinnamon powder directly to the skin can cause significant irritation. Direct application on pimples can further irritate the skin, leading to increased redness, itching, and even allergic reactions.

Coffee:

Using coffee as a physical scrub can remove dead skin cells and make the skin soft and smooth. However, natural scrubs like coffee can be too harsh for facial skin, especially for those with sensitive skin. The granules in coffee can cause micro-tears in the skin, leading to skin barrier damage and various skin problems.

Coconut Oil:

While coconut oil offers many benefits in hair care, using it on the face might not be a good idea. Coconut oil is comedogenic, meaning it can clog pores. Using it on the face as a makeup remover, for double cleansing, or as a moisturizer can lead to pore clogging and exacerbate acne problems. It’s especially not suitable for oily and acne-prone skin types.

Raw Aloe Vera:

Many prefer using raw aloe vera to remove suntan or relax the skin. However, using raw aloe vera on the face can lead to various skin problems for many. Some natural compounds in raw aloe vera can cause irritation or allergic reactions on the skin. Moreover, it may contain latex, which can be harmful to the skin. Also, raw aloe vera may contain various impurities, which, if not properly cleaned, can lead to skin problems.

Hopefully, now you understand that using natural ingredients in skincare doesn’t always mean it’s safe for the skin. So, before blindly using homemade masks or home remedies, understand them properly and then use them. This way, your skin will stay healthy and bright.
